After a numbing cream has been applied, an extremely fine needle is used to precisely inject small amounts of a purified protein under the skin. These proteins block the nerves in specific facial muscles, and can help significantly reduce forehead lines, frown lines, vertical lip lines and crow’s feet.
Anti-wrinkle injections take around 10-15 minutes and the effects will show a couple of days later. The number of injections you will need will depend on the area being treated and, as these are precisely targeted, they can produce natural-looking results. There is usually no need to take any time out to recover after the procedure.
This is a non-surgical treatment, therefore, there is no need for local anaesthetic as the procedure is mainly pain-free. If you are uncomfortable with needles, then you may feel mild discomfort due to the small needle injection involved (you might feel a little sting or pinch) – but this will be minimal and temporary.
Unlike some surgical facelifts, this treatment only targets the muscles that are involved in producing the lines and wrinkles that you want to reduce. Unfortunately, these effects aren’t permanent and will wear off after around six months. To maintain the results for longer, you can have top-up injections. The frequency of these will vary from person to person.
